It is important to note that coverage exclusions are available for personal automobile insurance providers under MCL 500.3017, whereby an authorized insurer may exclude coverage for any loss or injury stemming from an Uber accident. In essence, Uber drivers are excluded from enjoying no-fault insurance benefits afforded by a personal auto policy when involved in an Uber accident in Michigan.
Are Passengers Insured in an Uber Accident?

What Safety Requirements are Required of Uber in Michigan?
Uber is required to conduct annual background checks of each of their drivers’ criminal history and obtain driving records. In addition, Uber is prohibited from hiring drivers that (a) are under nineteen years of age; (b) that have had more than four (4) moving violations or one (1) major violation in the prior three years up to the date of application; (c) that have been convicted of a felony within five years prior to the application; (d) that are listed on the National Sex Offender Registry database; (e) that do not have a valid driver’s license issued under the Michigan Vehicle Code or by another state; and (f) you do not provide proof of automobile liability insurance.
Also, Uber vehicles that are 5 years or older must be annually inspected by a licensed mechanic. Michigan law also mandates a zero-tolerance policy in effect for Uber drivers relating to the use of drugs or alcohol while operating an Uber and transporting passengers.
